more re the tank

I asked my husband about this just to check I had got it right. His gt-uncle
was one of the team that developed the tank and we have just been given some
of his papers including a 1917 Christmas card with a drawing of a tank on
it! and a photo of the whole development team.

Apparently in order to keep the whole development secret, the work being
undertaken by the group was given out as ' the development of mobile water
tanks' to bring water in quantity to the battle field! So crates of machines
were stencilled WATER TANKS on the side and eventually this was shortened by
everyone to just TANKS and the name stuck.
