No, corbiesteps aren't related to corbelling.

It seems simple enough, Hugo, in a Scottish context. "Corbie" is Scots
for "raven", from the French "corbeau".

The stepped gables are crawsteps or corbiesteps in the sense that craws
(crows) and corbies use them as platforms.

Actually in Lowland Scots "corbie" refers to a crow hence the Fly Fifers'
name for crow steps on gables.
Actually I think the name refers to any Corvine bird.
