From: Ingmar Roerdinkholder <ingmar.roerdinkholder at WORLDONLINE.NL>
Subject: LL-L "Language use" 2008.03.15 (03) [D/E]

Yesterday I went to Drenthe, to a reunion of my primary school in the town
where I grew up. Most of my old class mates I hadn't seen for over 25
years, that was real fun! But I was happily surprised as well to find out
that the common language still turned out to be Low Saxon: almost everyone
spoke Drenthe dialect instead of Dutch. Even the teacher and a local
journalist who kind of lead the gathering later on, who were both
originally from Friesland and raised in Frisian, spoke Low Saxon. The
journalist did even ask in the beginning: shall I speak Dutch or just
Drentish, I assume the last, as usual. So there is still hope for our
language, because we were all below 40 yrs old (except for the teacher of
course and that journalist). I hadn't really expected that.

Groeten
Ingmar
