Subject: Members' news

Dear Lowlanders,

As our friend Reuben Epp kindly informed me, another important voice for
Plautdietsch (Mennonite Low Saxon) has been silenced. One-time Lowlands-L
member Herman Rempel of Morden, Manitoba, Canada, born in 1915, passed away
on October 11, 2008.

While I am sad that our active, old friend has passed on and away from us, I
am happy to know that his passing was kind and gentle.

Herman's engagement for his language is legendary. One of the great services
he rendered is his on-line dictionary "Kjenn Jie noch Plautdietsch?":

Herman often posted information about his language during his tenure as a
member of Lowlands-L.
