dear Ben,

but why don't you want to tell that little, perhaps sad, perhaps amusing
story about 'Little Mother'? It could be exactly the right stuff for us to
get rid off this damned November-depressions!

Hello all,

Apparently some culture(s) use(d) mother as a synonym for lady or woman in
an indeering fassion. Due to some wildly weird-arse thing, I used to use the
word mother in every sentence for about three years of my prepubescence
slash adolescence. American women r'r'r'r'r'r'r'really! hate to be called
mothers unless they are actually mothers of children. In this apparent
meaning, she would be a mother regardless of her having given birth or not,
as they had separate words for the childbearing woman and this other
meaning. Please tell me if I was (in some way) dreaming or not.

Hi all!

Ben, in Afrikaans we say

kietsie kietsie kietsie to cats

koeloe koeloe to turkeys (so I've heard)

kiepkiepkiepkiep to chickens

kom! to our watchdogs (or a name of course)

Elsie
