Having heard spoken Scots (which I can generally follow) and Ullans (which I
could only follow by cheating with the subtitles), I reckon their claim for
separate language status has some justification.



Granted, the perceptions of an English speaker aren't definitive, but I know
of English people who are quite fluent in Swedish and find spoken Danish
almost impenetrable, and vice-versa; this seems to me to be a similar case.
