I remember some weeks ago a list was published of known people with the name
*Hahn*.

While sorting my CDs (still stored in a messy way since I moved 18 months
ago), I found a CD with songs composed by Reynaldo *Hahn*.
I ripped 2 of them, none related to a *wren* unfortunately, but one related
to a *nightingale,* and an other related to the *wings* Victor Hugo wished
to get for his poems.

Here are they (for a brief while on my website):

* Reynaldo's father was from *Hamburg*
* During WWII he had to flee to Southern France, later to Monaco

Subject: Names

Thanks a lot, Roger.

I did mention Reynaldo Hahn in my line-up of Hahns:

• Reynaldo Hahn (Venezuelan composer of Jewish-German and Basque descent,
naturalized French citizen, lover of Marcel Proust [who once said,
"Everything I have ever done has always been thanks to Reynaldo."])

That his father was from Hamburg was news to me, however. His name must
have been Karl Hahn before his time in Venezuela. (I had an uncle by that
name, probably one among many men.)

To my shame I have to admit that I'm not terribly familiar with Hahn's
music, but I think that the little I've heard of it so far has a lovely
lyrical quality. I have noticed that the poems he chose to write music to
tend to have what I consider a "Chinese hue", which seems just about right,
considering that his time was that of East Asian (re-)discovery in European,
especially French, art circles.

And thanks for the samples

Reinhard/Ron
