Im sure quite a few MP's mugs were on the effigys. It is my understanding
that Dutch was a regognised language at that time, as any records of the
Williamite wars always mentioned the Dutch as speaking that language, never
any dialect of same or confused with German.

Incidently, Flemish is mentioned many times from 1300 onwards as a language
and nationality as many were planted in Ireland by the British as merchants.
