I see the subject "travels" is hardly touched in the list recently I'm in
the Mid-Atlantic in the second week of January, and I appreciate all
suggestions, especially for Sunday January 9 and Monday January 10, since I
have a lot of unplanned time these two days. I rented a car for the stay.

Really??? I thought. What a co-incidence!!! Me too!!! But it seems I got
hold of the wrong end of the stick.

First to Roger's Mid-Atlantic:
There are 'Dutch' buildings mentioned in
Upton Dell (ed.) 1986 America's Architectural Roots: Ethnic Groups
that Built America
and I identified a few more in the HABS/HAER database (
http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/habs_haer/index.html)
I can send details if you are interested in hunting them up.

The mid-Atlantic I'm off too also has some Lowlands connections: I am going
to Ascension and St. Helena. A Dutchman was castaway on Ascension in 1725
(Alex Ritsema has written a history), and the Netherlands claimed St.
Helena. I'm coming home via Cape Town, and where there is, of course, much
more Lowlands history and archaeology.

Have a great trip!

Cheers,

Pat
