A grey mare with a grey background - simplicity itself!

I wonder that with modern designs people still copy older vexillological
patterns?

Why not a colour gradient or something behind the horse? Simple but not
simplistic! Too difficult to make?

Now you’re talking! Or a series of diagonally falling raindrops against a
gray background.

Why not a colour gradient or something behind the horse?

“Something behind the horse”? Are you thinking what *I* am thinking? That
sure *would* make it different. Papa like!

Enough horsing around for one day!

By origin, a cog would be more Frisian-Danish than Saxon...according to
Dutch author Luit van der Tuuk:

http://home.tiscali.nl/gjallar/Koggen.html

The guy wrote a book about the role Danish warlords played along the Frisian
and Flemish coast during the Middle Ages.

For once, Charlemagne, doesn't seem to be the only bogeyman in town...cf.
how the Danes viewed their opponents:

*Tiðhoggvit lét tyggi, Tryggva sonr,
fyr styggvan Leiknar hest
á lesti ljótvaxinn hræ Saxa.
Vinhróðigr gaf viða visi margra
Frísa blokku brúnt at drekka blóð kveldriðu stóði.
Rógs brá rekka lægir ríkr Valkera líki.
Herstefnir lét hrofnum hold Flæmingja goldit. *

Moral: the more you kill, the faster peace will be established...mighty fine
sense of logic them folks had back in the day :-/
