The problem with coastlines (or any other map) on a flag is that they are
back-to-front on the other side of the flag, unless you make the flag so
thick that you can reverse the design for the other side.



In my opinion such flags in any case are just bad maps, not symbols of the
land.

Hello!

Dear Henry,

I think you've got a nice idea but in the whole it's not practicable. Why?
Because it would leave out f.ex. Africaans or North America. As lowlandic
languages are spoken all over the world (more or less) you would have to
drag every continent. To concentrate on the North Sea is simply not enough,
I believe.
Until I saw Ron's suggestions I thought taking red, white and blue would be
great because those colors are part of most of the official flags (US, GB,
Schleswig-Holstein, Netherlands). But I like the colors Ron chose much
better.

Geographical shapes rarely, if ever, do well on flags, usually come out
looking a mess, and people don’t know what it’s supposed to be.
