I remember that in the 40ties and 50ties my father used too say in a jocular
fashion dittenendatten when he meant dates. It always struck me as a funny
combination of the French dattes and Dutch dit. I don't think he invented  this
comical word, though I have never heard anybody else using it in Tienen. But
then dadels are not exactly the kind of subject that would drive young
fellows wild or that would belong to their everyday parlance.
