From: R. F. Hahn <sassisch at yahoo.com>

I wonder if any of you can help regarding the Low Saxon and other names for
the bird known in English as ?(common) swift? (*Apus apus*). My educated
guess is that in Low Saxon of Germany it is **Muurseiler* (?wall glider?), *
*Toornseiler* (?tower glider?) or **Toornswulk* (?tower swallow?).

"Abriss der meklenburgischen Landeskunde: Naturkunde, Geschichte und
Topographie" von Ernst Boll, Sied 118, seggt 'Spierswölk'.

"Die Vogelbezeichnungen im Niederdeutschen Schleswig-Holsteins und
Mecklenburgs", Sied 294, hett 'Moorswulk', 'Tornswolk', 'Tuurnswölk',
'Steenswolk', 'Steinswölk', 'Muurswülk', 'Muerswölk', 'Muerswölken',
'Pannrott'.
