Interestingly (and relevant to Lowlands-L), Martin Van Buren is the only US
president for whom English was his second language.  His first language was
Dutch.

Herbert Hoover even spoke Mandarin! How about that, huh? And he and his wife
used it as their secret language ... That wouldn’t work so well these days.
