Some of our languages have particular modal forms for the verb.

These forms ore often difficult to translate in other languages.



E.g. how to translate properly the difference between:

I eat now

I'm eating now.

Are you chewing the food more with the latter than with the former?



In Limburgish we have the gerundium

*..... Het Limburgs heeft eigen gerundium-vormen, bijv. een westgermaanse
relictvorm op -erre die de functie heeft van een tegenwoordig deelwoord
(sjpeulenterre, sjrieventerre: "al spelend", "al schrijvend").... *

I would translate my Limburgish differently, e.g.

Ich loop zeingend;   I run and I'm singing the same time

Ich loop zeingenterre:    I run and my singing is in line with my running



Today I saw a case in Rouchi (the Picard variety of the Valenciennes area -
or Western Hainaut/Henegouwen in France) (see below):

d'allache = old latin "inde" (from somewhere) + French aller:

meaning nowadays: start going, becoming in a state of going



Are these stand alone dialectical developments,

or lefts-over of much richer proto-language forms?

Amis rouchisants, Bravo mes gins  pour chueulre invite   . Je ne pourrai pas
participe m.ais comme j(ai quer l'rouchi j'vas dire ène séquoi...
On m'a demandé, après une causerie que je donnais au Cherque du Moulin
d''Aulnoy, d'où venait le mot "dallache". Le "d" n'est pas une préposition,
mais vient de l'ancien picard "end" du (latin *INDE *'d'où"); ce Di s'est
anciennement agglutiné au verbe: On disait "s"end aller' puis "s'en daller"
.D'où  le nom *DALLACHE"* le fait d'aller. Hécart 1833 écrit "DALLACHE:
(méte à): *mettre en train, en état d'aller*". Le mot a pris plus tard le
sens de "désordre, foutoire etc..." Il n'y a pas lieu de mettre une
apostrophe.  Le 5 mars dernier j'ai fait à Saint Amand justement une
causerie sur l'abus d'apostrophes dans l'écriture du picard, dont le rouchi
fait partie  J'souhaite à tertous bon corache...
