The article concerns primary and middle schools. I leave it to Dutch members
to comment on that.

An other issue is Dutch citizen presence on Flemish University level. There
is a numerus clausus in the Netherlands, not in Belgium except for a few
cases, draining people who fail to be accepted in the Netherlands to
Belgium.

immigrant children attending Dutch and Flemish schools?*

I have no idea for the Dutch schools in the Netherlands. For the Dutch
language schools in Belgium an open issue is the evolution towards
concentration schools (segregation of poor Maghreb kids in their quarter),
especially in Brussels and in Antwerp. It is difficult to force people to
put theit kids not in a school of their choice but in an imposed school that
is leveled to an optimal mix.

An other issue is the popularity of Dutch language schools in Brussels.
Athough only 10 percent of the inhabitants is Dutch-speaking at home, these
schools get 20 percent of the kids. This sometimes leads to classrooms in
the Flemish (Dutch language) educational system, where none of the kids is
Dutch speaking.



Pse be aware: Flemish is not a teaching language in the Belgian Dutch
speaking area. The local Dutch may be recognized though as "Belgian Dutch".
Some Dutchmen think it is cute.
