I wonder if anybody would like to offer opinions on this?

If you agree with this, do you think Low Saxon speakers, Frisians, Dutch are
more like Germans or British?

I would say that, compared to the English, Scots are less likely to say that
a thing's going well for fear of jinxing it, but it's still "small talk".
