Beste Pat & Ron,

belief". Is the
reference to "chickens" meant to devalue the belief, or is there an old
custom behind it all?

I am reminded of “Mother Goose” stories, which I think is a translation from
French.

Wow! Thanks, Luc!

So, folks, what is an "adder stone" in English and *adderstanes* in Scots (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adder_stone) is a
*Hühnergott*("chicken/poultry god") in German. There seems to be a
Slavic link (Russian
*куриный бог*, Ukrainian *курячий бог* "chicken/poultry god"), if not
origin, where these and other types of stones served as talismans. The adder
stone played an important role among Druids.

Reinhard/Ron
