Beste Lowlanders,

American ancestry, look what the census gives:

There are even people of English ancestry living in the States, but
predominantly (judged by area), they're of German stock. Even in the
Sunshine State. Bit of a surprise really.

Kind greetings,

Hey, Luc!

I'm afraid the map is so simplified that it's misleading.

Most Americans I know have "mixed" ancestry. But, yes, a high percentage
have at least some "German" ancestry.

Germans began immigrating to the USA very early and in large numbers.
Furthermore, the majority of them intermarried with Americans of other
ethnic backgrounds, including Native Americans.

Apparently, at one point in history German was so widely used in the USA
that some proposed making it the national language rather than English.

Among the earlier "German" immigrants there were many Low Saxon speakers.
In fact, some early patriotic American material was published in Low Saxon.

Happy 4th of July to all in and from the USA!
