I see what y’all mean. Yes, I’ve experienced those very things. When I was
in the Netherlands years ago, I set about trying to learn some Dutch. I
bought a couple of books, but no one would speak Dutch to me. They all
wanted to speak English.



Much the same happens in Mexico. I speak Spanish fluently, and I translate
English to Spanish in my job. When I go to Mexico, once they get over their
surprise that I speak Spanish, they want me to speak English. It’s so
extreme that I’ll speak Spanish to them and they speak English to me J
