I had supposed that what is being identified here as 'double modals' was a
fairly ordinary construction: If uncommon, an occasionally necessary usage.

Have I missed something?
Down this end we have a pop song with these lines;
    'Ek sou kon doen met 'n miljoen
    Ek sou my met net ses nulle kon versoen.'
In English;
    'I should could do with a million
    I should could recincile myself with six zeroes...'
Well, indeed.
