Subject: Instruction

Hello Lowlanders:

I have a general question about linguistics paradigms, for lack of a better
word.

I graduated from the University of Texas in 1984 with a BA in linguistics.
At that time and in that place the dominant paradigm was generative
linguistics. All of our classes had generative linguistics as a foundation.

We learned about structuralism, but it wasn’t the basis of our instruction.
I recall a professor from Australia who wasn’t as enamored with generative
linguistics as as the American ones, but he was the exception.

Is there a new theory or paradigm within the field of linguistics nowadays?

Regards,
Mark Brooks
