Hi,

I would guess that this way of time-saying had its origin in the very
beginning of clock-industries.
This kind of time-saying is/was also found outside of Germany [e.g.
Icelandic].
We have to think a verb in the construction: 18.15 = 'a quart gone to
seven'.
Is anybody interested in finding out what they used to say in Latin for
this construction?
