Further on Anna Ash's inquiry, actually, the PMD660 and PMD670 both
record "16 bit linear PCM" according to the specs at

(as Caroline Jones has alerted me).

It's the top-of-the-line model PMD671 which "can record 24-bit, 96 kHz
audio"
