extracting audio files from an iPod

Aidan Wilson, who says that his phone doesn't communicate well with the
list, tells me that there is a GNU/Linux music player called Rhythmbox that
can transfer files from iPods. He warns that it once trashed the iPod though
and suggests backing up the iPod first.
