Dear RNLDers,

In a recent press
the Australian Government has announced the awarding $1.5 million to
Northern Territory projects under the Maintenance of Indigenous Languages
and Records (MILR) Program.

MILR grants will fund 13 projects in the NT. The Aboriginal Resource and
Development Services Inc has been awarded triennial funding to further
develop English to Yolngu Matha (Dhuwal) electronic dictionaries; and to
revitalise and preserve the endangered Dhangu/Djangu and Gurrangay Matha
languages. Batchelor Institute was awarded $312,500 to support the Wadeye
Aboriginal Languages Centre to maintain and revive Marri and Murrinhpatha
languages, and to develop a Marri language on-line dictionary.
