[RNLD] collections management

It seems like many small agencies are looking for a collection management
system that can help organise their collections of recordings, images and
texts. A few have built their own systems.

Does anyone use or know of open-source systems that could be adapted to do
collections management in this context?

I know there are several systems for *presenting* cultural information, but
this request is about systems that make it easier to create descriptions
of, for example, a collection of recordings, images and texts in a
language. They should allow for controlled vocabularies and use metadata
that can be adapted to local needs.
