Dear Acharn Yuphaphann,

I am writing to you at the suggestion of Tom Gething at the National
Foreign Language Center in the United States.

I work for the Mae Fah Luang Foundation in Chiang Rai, documenting their
collection of Lanna art and artifacts in preparation for the opening of a
museum at Rai Mae Fah Luang. I am discussing a training proposal with a
museum registration consultant in the United States. He will be providing
training, equipment and software for digitalizing museum records at the
museum in Luang Prabang. We are hoping that he would be interested in
doing the same thing here, which brings me to my reason for contacting you.

We have a need to incorporate Thai and Khammuang object names into the
digital record. I would like for the consultant, who is in the United
States, to discuss this with someone in the United States so that he can
think of how to do so with the program that he uses. It would have to be
someone who is an expert in both Thai and Khammuang, is computer savvy and
knows the Chiang Mai University Thai-Lanna word processing program. I know
this is a tall order and it may not be possible to find such a person, but,
Professor Gething seemed to think that if any one could do it, it would be
you.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Weldon Sithiwong
