two totally unrelated questions

I have two absolutely unrelated questions that I hope people will be able
to help me with:

1)  I have to do a short presentation in my teaching methods class on the
pros and cons of the "audio-lingual method."  Can anyone recommend some
sources?

2)  When is  Shrove Tuesday this year, according to the Russian Orthodox
calendar?
