kitchen as social space

I don't know anything about the social study, but Hedrick Smith in his
excellent book "The Russians" has same very good observations of the kitchen
culture.
Another great piece of literature that deals a lot with the kitchen culture
is a book called "St.Petersburg's Hangover" (something or rather) by a
British journalist who had spent several years in St. Petersburg and
participated in the "kitchen culture" . The book was on the Internet for
quite a while, but it is not there now.

If someone can recall the title of the book and the name of the author - you
will get some really great literature material.
