"NSK's entire policy toward the
US was based on the idea that history would prove Socialism's superiority,
but the fall of Capitalism would occur *without* war.  This was what was
meant by "peaceful coexistence/competition," the Soviet ideological
underpinning of US-Soviet detente.  Remember?  Anyone read any history
lately?"

Now, now, let's not be nasty. You are telling us how the Soviets described
the intent of the remark, and I reported the American interpretation
thereof. Both of them mattered.
