Getting a guest visa for a Russian visitor

Hello, everyone,

        I'd like to invite some friends from Moscow to come visit for
a few weeks, and I was wondering if anyone knows whether the
procedure has changed in recent years.  As I recall from the last
time I did this (1996), I need to write a letter to my friends
inviting them to come to stay with me, and they take that letter and
their zagranpasport to the US consular section in Moscow.  Is there
anything else that needs to be done?

        Please reply *OFF-LIST*, and I will post a summary in a
couple of days in order to avoid cluttering up people's maiboxes.
