Dear SEELANGers:

Today's New York Times (p. 1, bottom left side of the page) has a
story about the study of critical languages (mentioning Russian and
Macedonian, among other non-Slavic languages). The author of the
article cites critical shortages of linguists (i.e., individuals with
language expertise) in federal government jobs. The article might be
useful for colleagues in the US and elsewhere who are trying to
recruit students to the study of Slavic and East European Languages.

For those who wish to see the article on the web, the URL is:

With best wishes,

Ben Rifkin
