One word which is in use amongs Orthodox Russians to express
something of this nature is "govenie".  To the extent that this normally
involves fasting and preparation for communion this does not (or not
necessarily) correspond to the "retreat" as used by Western Christians;
but to the extent that it implies a withdrawal from worldly business for
a period, it does.
