My Oxford German-English dictionary has "heimlich" as the equivalent of
"tajinstvennyj", and not Freud's "unheimlich," the  original object of the
inquiry.  "Strashnyi" seems closer to the mark, but Ms. Israeli's
suggestions seem most appropriate.
