Russian Area Studies

Dear friends on the list,

My students and I are in chapter 1 of the textbook V Puti, now discussing
the subject of majors.  One of the students is majoring in Russian Area
Studies.  Katzner's dictionary gives area studies as "stranovedenie".  Are
there any other ways to express Russian Area Studies I should know about?
(Obviously he would like to know how to express his own major.)  Thanks in
advance!
