The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign announces a full-time Assistant Professor,
tenure-track position in Russian. Responsibilities include language teaching
and the supervision of language instruction in the department. Candidates
should also be able to contribute to the teaching of Russian literature
and/or culture, although their primary commitment should be language
teaching.  We seek a promising scholar with a demonstrated commitment to
excellence in teaching, and a well-defined research program that complements
existing departmental strengths.  Native or near-native proficiency in
Russian and professional-level proficiency in English are required.
Knowledge of a second Slavic language and experience in use of technology in
the classroom are desirable. The successful candidate should show a
commitment to building the department, attracting and retaining
undergraduate and graduate students, and developing outreach programs to
promote the study of Slavic languages and literatures. Applicants should
hold the Ph.D. by the date of appointment. Salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience (entry level salary with Ph.D completed is
$49,000).  Starting date: August 21, 2003. To ensure full consideration,
applicants' CV, three letters of recommendation, sample publications and/or
dissertation chapters, and evidence of excellence in teaching language
(e.g., student evaluations or observations) must be received by November 30,
2002.
