Or sometimes a grand-father's name is used. In the olden days when
children out of wedlock were stigmatised, and they had a dash
(procherk) on the line referring to the father (and then they were
called "besotcovshchina"), occasionally grand-father's adopted their
own grand-children to give them a legal father for the documents.
