Origin of Lenin

I think this is a bogus story. I don't remember exactly, I hope some
specialist on the list corrects me, but I think he started using the pen
name Lenin since about1902.

Since he did use pseudonyms Volgin and Il'in at other times, there must be
a reason closer to his heart.
