Treading water

Dear colleagues,

Is there an equivalent in Russian for "to tread water" in the literal  
sense of being able to stay afloat in water? (I'm less interested in  
it's figurative meaning of "barely/managing" in some pursuit or  
other).  None of my dictionaries seem to think so...

Any ideas?
