Independent Research Travel to Russia

Does anyone have any experience with the service "Praxis International," 
formerly known as "The Center for the Study of Russia and the Soviet 
Union" (URL: http://merton.sscnet.ucla.edu/history/getty/professor.html)

I'd be interested in any information you may have, as this seems like a  
promising alternative to the standard visa-processing agencies, none of 
which are oriented towards scholars.
