There are also the "piti-piti-piti" and other sounds Prince Andrei hears 
as he is dying in WAR AND PEACE.

Auditory, visual, olfactory, tactile, and other hallucinations are 
normal in people who are dying.  Suicidal people also often 
hallucinate.  Therefore the literary representations of these phenomena 
at least have the potential of reflecting clinical reality.
