What does matter is that many of the cuts were meaningless, as if the censors were trying to fulfill a plan, perhaps even trying to cover up with the queantity of the cuts the fact that they were after salvaging some of the more important passages from being cut. Yes, the italics re-inserts edition was Possev's, and the original Russian (1967?), in the Moskva "thick" (i.e., literary) journal.
