question about Akhmatova's Requiem

Dear SEELANGers,

Sometimes the translator's faithfulness to the poet's language results in
slight awkwardness of expression, and by extension, lessening of the impact.
Ideally, I would like the student reaction to the above poem to range from
solemn silence to uncontrollable weeping. Which English translation would
you recommend for use in an undergraduate class, where most students are not
Russian and/or literature majors?

Replies off- or on-list will be equally appreciated.
