DESCRIPTION:

The present volume of essays dedicated to various aspects of the
theme Antiquity and the Russian Text of the 19th Century was
initiated in the framework of a Hungarian (Budapest) - Estonian
(Tartu) professional cooperation engendering a wider range of
international scientific contributions by American, Canadian,
Estonian, Hungarian and Russian scholars in the relevant fields.
These fields concern the history and theory of literature, realms of
philological investigations and Russian literary studies. The book
embraces rich material presenting different and challenging
approaches to the problem of European historical dialogue between
classical and Russian culture. The old dialogues with literary
Antiquity are evaluated through new discoveries and analyses of the
artistic achievements, the Weltanschauung, and the peculiarities of
the philological culture of Pushkin, Gogol, Turgenev, Dostoevsky and
the Russian poets of the first half of the 19th century.
