Vata = cotton wool /Textile Vocabulary Question (Russian)

Dear Kirsten,
My very old (now long dead) Russian emigre family meant 
"cotton wool" when using the term "vata",
hence I would say 'quilted / cotton padded', that what was used for jerkins, waistcoats,
winter coats and now (cotton-quilted-padded) anoraks (Armericans have another word for this English word).  I had such a coat in the 1960s in England.
