Newspaper question

I am doing a senior seminar class over this summer semester.  For a research paper, I am doing some comparisons of US media and Russian media.  I was wondering if you had any suggestions on which newspapers are widely read and considered credible.  I am comparing it to the New York Times, so if you can think of any newspapers that are on the same scale as the New York Times, it would be very helpful to know which ones you suggest.  As of right now, I have been using VESTI, but I'm not sure if it is of the same scale as the New York Times. Thank you for your consideration.
