Alexander's Column

Dear SEELANGers,

 

I'd like to know if there's any truth in Alexander I constructing a column
out of the French cannons left by Napoleon around Moscow in 1812.  Does
anyone remember reading about this anywhere?

 

Any leads most gratefully received.
