Pro bono translation work

Doctors do pro bono work all the time, and there seems to be little shame in that (far from it).  The remark about begrudgingly providing services for "disaster victims" is a bit disturbing, truth be told.  Do you people think about what you say before you say it?

This is my comeuppance for getting the SEELANGS digest. But I wanted to weigh in, however belatedly, with a rousing huzzah for Paul Gallagher, William Darbyshire, Sarah Hurst, et al. (no disrespect intended there). It's all very well to say "If you don't like it, don't apply" -- and we won't -- but this issue goes way beyond that, as others have explained far more cogently than I ever could.
