The rest of us knew exactly what you meant, Lena, as your rejection of 
"антагонист" was all the context needed. Careless reading still exists, 
apparently. :)

As for "foil," "противник" and "немезида" don't work, either. I doubt 
there's a single word that will fit the bill.
